The Natural Advantages of the Village at Gallagher's Canyon
It happens quickly. You begin the drive up to The Village at Gallagher's Canyon from the hustle and bustle of Kelowna's main route. Within two minutes, you turn the corner at Benvoulin and K.L.O. and begin to relax. Soon, you find your breathing slipping into an easier rhythm as you climb into the hills of East Kelowna past orchards and overlooking the city below. When the orchards give way to ponderosa pines, you've already shrugged off the concerns of the day and are well on your way to achieving a deep and meaningful communal experience with nature. In the ten minutes it's taken to go from downtown Kelowna to the Village at Gallagher's Canyon, you've crossed the bridge from the city to nature's front door.

For the people who have lived at Gallagher's Canyon for awhile, there's one comment they hear again and again from newcomers. "I can't believe how quiet and peaceful it is up here!" The common response is just to nod your head knowingly and let a smile of utter contentment spread across your face. It's not unusual for people moving into the community to have to adjust from hearing traffic and sirens at all hours to just enjoying the natural symphony of crickets, birds and the odd frog. "I actually had trouble falling asleep the first few nights," said one resident, "It was too quiet. Of course, now I have no problem."

Life at the Village at Gallagher's Canyon is soothing to the other senses as well. Another resident was walking along and took a deep, soul clearing breathe of fresh air. "The smells are fantastic up here. They're never the same. The smell of hot sun on the pine trees and the apple blossoms when they bloom. The smell of the course (Gallagher's 18 hole tournament golf course) early in the morning after the grass is just cut. And on rainy days..then the smells are truly fantastic."

Many residents find inspiration in the wonderful panoramas that present themselves from literally every vantage point at the Village at Gallagher's Canyon. A 360 degree turn will give you a sweeping view of Kelowna and Okanagan Lake, Pinnacle Ridge overlooking Gallagher's Canyon, carved over millions of years by Mission Creek, the spectacular bulk of Layer Cake Mountain, the pine forests reaching into the Okanagan highlands and, closer to home, the picture perfect village centre. Of course, the many manicured fairways and smooth emerald greens of the two golf courses add their own unmistakable marks to the beauty of the surroundings.

This is a community that revels in it's close proximity to nature. Every aspect of the Village at Gallagher's Canyon has been planned to enhance it's spectacular setting. Each home is carefully designed to bring the outdoors in, with large open plans, patio decks, sliding doors and plenty of large picture windows. The community has been planned so the majority of homes back onto either a course fairway, a manicured park or a natural reserve. The intent from the beginning was to give each resident a feeling of intimacy and privacy. Obviously, the planner's intent has been realized when you consider that this community has over 200 finished homes yet
everyone feels like they have their own little private part of Okanagan paradise
.

More than homes though, a community is made of the people that live in those homes, and because of Gallagher's setting, it attracts people that love the idea of living at nature's front door. "We have a very active hiking group," says Carolyn Wilde, receptionist at The Village's Activity Centre, "we often have 10 to 15 people out for our weekly hikes." While the group often goes to other locations, some of the best hiking in the Okanagan starts right in Gallagher's back yard, literally! "We often go down into the canyon. It's a lot of fun to explore down there, with the creek, swimming holes, even a cave or two. It's just beautiful down there."

Another well worn hiking path is along the Kettle Valley Railway. Groups from the Village at Gallagher's Canyon often head up to the rail bed for a hike along the trestles on Myra Canyon and through it's tunnels. "When you
have all this at your doorstep, you make sure you take advantage of it."

In addition to hiking, there's a long list of activities you can participate in that allow you to enjoy The Village's natural setting. Birdwatching, walking the dog, photography, landscape painting, cross country skiing, gardening and, of course, golf are just a few of the ways that the Village's homeowners have found to commune with nature.

The Village at Gallagher's Canyon's location also offers a sense of safety and security to it's residents. "We're not on any major through roads, so traffic is usually minimal," pointed out one resident, "There's no one roaring through the community in the middle of the night. And for families like us, it's ideal. Our kid's friends all come to play here, because of all the amenities. We always know where they're at. That peace of mind is priceless."

"I can talk till I'm blue in the face," added another resident, "but you really have to experience this for yourself. Come on up and visit us." Our feelings exactly!
